Out of one hundred and eight nine (189) countries identified by the World Bank as places to experience ease in doing business, Ghana, stands at sixty seven (67).
It is a country developing quickly as a result of its resilient culture blended with natural resources and wealth. That is why those charged with the responsibility of co-ordinating and monitoring all investment activities and providing assistance to domestic and foreign investors, never miss an opportunity to "sell" the country.
One of such personalities is the Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mrs Mawuena Trebarh.
In an interview with World Finance, which prides itself as The voice of the market last week, she revealed that in terms of investment, the country was doing quite well.
“We are able to close ease of doing business gaps by investing more in infrastructure and the energy sector… we also create a lot of value in some of the nontraditional areas of focus like agriculture and manufacturing which is really going to be at the heart of creating a lot of the jobs we are looking to generate”, she said.
Challenge of attracting investment
According to Mawuena Trebarh, when it comes to tackling the challenge of attracting investors, Ghana is turning them (challenges) into opportunities.
She further explained that the strength of the country's political stability also makes it conducive for investors to come into the country and do business.
"A lot has also been done to address the infrastructure requirements which would propel us to the upper income middle status," she said adding "it is a trend the country is anticipating.”
Aside this, she said, GIPC plans to entice strategic investors who are interested in long term medium opportunities that would translate into commercial benefits.
