Databank branches owned by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta have all been shut down after receiving threats to burn down the business from upset customers who had been denied withdrawals.
When Databank's customers tried to withdraw their deposits, they were told that there was no money in the bank to pay them. Kojo Addae-Mensah, the chief executive officer of Databank, said in a statement to the media, "It is a very severe situation. People have threatened to burn down the building, and you should be aware that these are some people's life savings.
On some occasions, workers of Databank were beaten up by customers who didn' t get the money that were expecting. As a result, all branches nationwide have been closed down and staff of Databank will work remotely from the house until the monetary issue is solved. " Some of the staff now were physically assaulted. In fact, I have been physically assaulted…because of all that is going on.
