The administration of Nana Akufo-Addo has announced plans to liquidate about 17 troubled state-owned businesses. According to Joseph Cudjoe, the minister in charge of public enterprises, the divestiture will prevent the state from continuing to spend money on these businesses.

“These are defunct assets that you would want to get rid of them so that you don’t continue to spend on them,” he was quoted by Joy News.
According to him, certain ministries have also stated their plan to employ some of the abandoned assets for notable programs like the commerce ministry's One District, One Factory. According to Cudjoe, the Agriculture Ministry may also use a few of the shuttered businesses for its Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.
